Fence posts and panels
Estimate posts and bays for open runs, closed loops and separately entered gates. Change the inputs to update the chart or diagram.
Your inputs
The editable example is illustrative. Enter your own dimensions, operating data, prices, and fees. Results update as you edit.
Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.
How it works
- Bays = Σ ceil(/); Open run: Posts=Bays+1; Closed loop: Posts=Bays; −
- Worked example: 10 m ÷ 2.5 m = 4 Bays; Open run ⇒ 5 Posts; Closed loop ⇒ 4 Posts
- Supported input limits: Entries: 1–50; : 1e-12 ≤ x ≤ 1,000,000,000,000; : 0 ≤ x ≤ 100

Assumptions and limitations
Each run is counted independently: an open run has one more post than bays; a closed loop does not. Gates use two posts. Enter shared endpoints manually to avoid double counting. This does not specify post foundations or wind-load capacity.
