Garden planting layout
Count planting positions for aligned or staggered rows with explicit spacing and edge margins. Drag the graph handles to change inputs and explore the result.

How it works
- Row positions = floor(( − 2 × ) / ) + 1
- Plants in an unshifted row = floor(( − 2 × ) / ) + 1
- Worked example: 240 × 120 cm; 30 cm × 30 cm; 15 cm ⇒ 4 × 8 = 32; Alternate rows shifted by half a spacing: 2 × 8 + 2 × 7 = 30

Assumptions and limitations
All dimensions use the selected unit. Margins locate plant centers, starting at one corner. Alternate rows shift by half the within-row spacing; row spacing is supplied separately. Oversized margins yield zero positions. The 90° comparison rotates row direction; this is not global packing optimization. Maximum 10 million positions and 1 million row positions. No species-specific spacing, paths or plant growth is inferred.
