Download and transfer time
Estimate transfer time from file size, link speed and your assumed efficiency. Change the inputs to update the chart or diagram.
Your inputs
The editable example is illustrative. Enter your own dimensions, operating data, prices, and fees. Results update as you edit.
Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.
How it works
- Ideal transfer time = (bit) ÷ (bit/s); Adjusted transfer time = Ideal transfer time ÷
- Worked example: 1 GB × 8 / (100 Mb/s) = 80 s; 80/0.8 = 100 s
- Supported input limits: : 0 ≤ x ≤ 1,000,000,000,000; : 1e-12 ≤ x ≤ 1,000,000,000,000; : 1e-9 ≤ x ≤ 1

Assumptions and limitations
The speed unit is interpreted per second. Efficiency 0.8 means 80% of that nominal rate. Adjusted time assumes constant throughput and does not independently model connection setup, congestion, retries or provider throttling. This is an estimate, not a speed test.
