Data storage units
Convert decimal and binary storage units with explicit bit and byte distinctions.
Your inputs
The editable example is illustrative. Enter your own dimensions, operating data, prices, and fees. Results update as you edit.
Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.
How it works
- 1 B = 8 bit; kB = 1,000 B; KiB = 1,024 B; a/b = × f₁ (bit/unit) ÷ f₂ (bit/unit)
- Worked example: 1 MiB = 1,048,576 B = 1.048576 MB; 8 Mb = 1 MB
- Supported input limits: : n ≤ 1,024

Assumptions and limitations
Lowercase b denotes bits and uppercase B bytes; one byte is eight bits. SI prefixes use powers of 1,000, IEC prefixes powers of 1,024. The exact ratio preserves the conversion even when the decimal display is rounded; usable disk space may be lower.
