How it works
- The browser decodes the image, optionally reduces its longest side without enlarging it, and re-encodes the pixels in the selected format. Savings = (original bytes − output bytes) ÷ original bytes × 100. Compression varies with image content and browser; no target file size or quality level is guaranteed.
Assumptions and limitations
One static JPEG, PNG or WebP at a time, up to 25 MB and 16 million pixels. JPEG/WebP quality is lossy. PNG uses lossless encoding and ignores quality. JPEG replaces transparency with white. File size may increase. Re-encoding can change metadata and color appearance; keep your original.
