How it works

  • Annual tyre reserve = × ÷
  • Annual brake reserve = × ÷
  • Annual cash budget with reserves = Fixed annual costs + Fuel consumption cost + Annual tyre reserve + Annual brake reserve
  • Annual cost including value change = Annual cash budget with reserves + Annual value loss or gain
  • Worked example: At 5,000 km/year, tyres costing USD 2,000 with a 20,000 km life need a USD 500 annual reserve. This spreads usage cost over distance; it does not predict when tyres must be replaced.
  • Annual tyre reserve = 5,000 × 2,000 ÷ 20,000 = 500 USD.

Assumptions and limitations

Tyre and brake life are entered in kilometres even when annual distance uses miles. Usage reserves are proportional to mileage and do not account for age-based replacement or track wear. Fuel price is per litre. Value change and annual interest are separate from purchase principal or loan repayment. Enter local taxes as amounts; no tax jurisdiction is assumed.
