Percentage change
Compare signed percentage change and the symmetric percentage difference between values. Drag the graph handles to change inputs and explore the result.

How it works
- Percentage change = ( − ) ÷ abs() × 100; Symmetric percentage difference = abs( − ) ÷ (( + ) ÷ 2) × 100; Symmetric percentage difference: , ≥ 0
- Worked example: 80 → 100 = +25%; 100 → 80 = −20%; −80 → −60 = +25%
- Supported input limits: : -1,000,000,000,000 ≤ x ≤ 1,000,000,000,000; : -1,000,000,000,000 ≤ x ≤ 1,000,000,000,000

Assumptions and limitations
Change divides the signed difference by the absolute original value; a zero baseline is undefined. Symmetric difference accepts nonnegative values and divides the absolute difference by their average. These two measures answer different questions.
