3D printing volumetric flow
Compare required extrusion flow with a tested limit, or calculate the speed at that limit. Drag the graph handles to change inputs and explore the result.
Your inputs
Example values are editable. Use your measurements and product specifications. Results update as you edit.
Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.
How it works
- A = × ( − ) + π × (/2)²
- Q = A × ; vmax = / A

Assumptions and limitations
Uses a rounded rectangle cross-section: width ≥ height. Applies to deposited FDM extrusion, not free-air bridging or resin printing. Enter your tested material/hotend flow limit. Speed is limited by flow only; acceleration, cooling and feature limits remain separate. At 0.45 × 0.2 mm and 100 mm/s, flow is about 8.142 mm³/s.
