How it works
- Scientific notation: a × 10^e, 1 ≤ abs(a) < 10; Engineering notation: e ∈ 3ℤ; Settlement rounding: 0.5 → 1; abs(e) ≤ 300
- Worked example: 12,345 = 1.2345 × 10^4 = 12.345 × 10^3; 9.995 ⇒ 1.00 × 10^1 (3 )
- Supported input limits: : n ≤ 1,024; : 1 ≤ x ≤ 15

Assumptions and limitations
The chosen significant figures round the value, not the number of decimal places. Engineering notation uses exponents divisible by three. Scientific, engineering and expanded decimal outputs represent the same rounded value, so this is not a lossless transcription tool.
